Sara

You have just finished an assignment at a reception centre for refugees on the outskirts of a small town. You've been a regular volunteer here at the centre where you are an interpreter. As well as that, you are also in charge of organising the language support team in the main languages spoken in the camp at several central points at the centre, remaining vigilant to ensure that all necessary and important signs around the camp are available in multiple languages, and fostering the collaboration with interpreters as part of the permanent staff here to draw on their services when necessary. While leaving the main building, you overhear a man arguing with someone from the medical team. A woman is sitting beside him seemingly not part of the conversation but with an expression of distress on her face. The man has some difficulty in communicating his concerns to staff. Through a short side conversation between the man and the woman, you become aware of the fact that you speak the same language. [[You overheard the argument though you decide not to get involved and you exit the premises.->Exit A]] [[You stop walking, take out your phone and text a colleague with the same language combination for them to check out the situation you've just witnessed. Everybody is looking at you for a moment. The man frowns but then reluctantly addresses you and tells you that the woman next to him is his wife Sara who had an accident falling down a couple of stairs and is in need of medical care. She's feeling dizzy and seems to be experiencing some pain in her arm and around her torso. He's been trying to explain all of this to the medical support but they don't seem to engage in any kind of action following his plea. The man jumps in and interrupts you, excessively waving his hands to direct that attention in the conversation back to him. Speaking in lieu of his wife, he is telling you that he already told you what had happened and that you should interpret that back to the medical personnel. The woman seems to become agitated by your actions and is constantly looking at her husband but doesn't say a word. The husband and also the medical team seem to get worked up as well and start talking, all at the same time. You can feel the emotions suddenly running high in this encounter. The three men and a woman forming the medical staff exchange looks and shrug. "It was extremely difficult to follow him. It was incomprehensible." At this point, the man is visibly upset and Sara seems indifferent and doesn't say anything. Reiterating that his wife is just clumsy and that she only needed to be quickly checked over, he announces that it might be better for them to seek help from someone else. Turning towards his wife, he gestures that they are leaving and you see them walk away. Sara, her husband and you keep trailing after Nina, following her into the building where she shows you to an examination room at the back. You all enter the room where a medical doctor is coming in right after you. When the doctor asks what brings all of you here, Sara's husband tries to recount again what happened, this time in the language of the doctor. The doctor looks at you then and asks you what you are doing here. The husband tries to protest, telling the doctor he can manage without an interpreter. The doctor, though, shakes his head, informing the husband that his wife needs to go through some check-ups and can do this by herself. The doctor tells you to stay in case they encounter any difficulties in communicating. With this said, the doctor asks the husband to step outside during the examination. While asking Sara a few questions the doctor pulls out the stethoscope examining Sara's breathing. You interpret what's been said so far, ... The doctor continues with the examination asking Sara to take some of her clothes off. When this is interpreted, she shakes her head and tries to get up to leave. The doctor tells you to pay more attention and to be more proactive in the encounter. Turning then to Sara, the doctor explains to her that she has nothing to fear and that they are here to take good care of her. Sara continues and agrees to go through with the examination and after about 20 minutes, the doctor sends her on her way with a referral to a specialist for further check-ups.
